A colloquium is a type of expository lecture. Typically a colloquium talk is a single lecture offered to a broader audience than the audience of a seminar; audience members are not expected to have detailed specialist knowledge of the subject matter. Colloquia are often part of a series, but generally the individual lectures are not related to one another.
